MFA has a naming problem

I’m currently working on Multi-Factor Authentication(MFA) rollout on my work project and I it just occured to me that MFA is a rather confusing term for end users. I don’t like that consumer facing products expose this term MFA (for coveying the two-factor verification process).

Think about a regular user in India or for that matter in a native english speaking place: “Multi-factor” and “authentication” are heavy, engineering terms! Tech folks understand it, but you need to explain these to anyone else.

I wish 2SV (2-Step Verification) was the more popular term (Google uses it!). It’s simple, direct, and tells the user exactly what to expect.
